About

The story of our founding began when Upstate New York native Tom Knapp—a former union electrician at Westinghouse—relocated to Tucson in 1977 to pursue his MBA at the University of Arizona. Shortly after, Tom reconnected with lifelong friend Tom Atkinson, leading the duo to launch a solar energy and solar water heating enterprise in Phoenix, Arizona. Recognizing the severe impact that Arizona’s mineral-rich, aggressive hard water had on residential plumbing fixtures and appliances, Tom transitioned into specialized water treatment. Beginning in 1980—just as Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology was emerging as a viable home solution—he began installing custom water softeners and filtration systems designed specifically to conquer Southwest water conditions.
