Each FlowPro system is selected and configured according to the water quality and requirements of your home. How Ion Exchange Softening Works The system uses a specially designed resin that attracts and holds the minerals responsible for hard water. As water flows through the resin, calcium and magnesium remain trapped while sodium ions move into the water. This process reduces water hardness before the water reaches your faucets, showers, and other outlets. Once the resin reaches its mineral-holding capacity, the system starts a regeneration cycle. During this stage, a saltwater solution passes through the resin, removes the accumulated hardness minerals, and restores the resin so it can continue softening water effectively.
