Below that, a specialized resin bed performs ion exchange, replacing hardness minerals like calcium and magnesium with safer sodium ions. Meanwhile, the adjacent secondary container stores the necessary salt solution required to periodically flush and regenerate the media, all managed automatically by the electronic control unit mounted at the top.
