A dual-tank water softener operates using a continuous ion-exchange process to remove hardness minerals like calcium and magnesium from the water supply. While one tank is actively filtering and softening the incoming water, the second tank remains on standby. Once the control valve meters that the active tank's resin bed has reached its capacity, the system automatically switches the water flow to the standby tank, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of soft water. Simultaneously, the depleted tank undergoes a regeneration cycle, flushing out the trapped minerals with a brine solution to prepare it for the next cycle.
