The process begins as water passes through a pre-filter to catch suspended particles before entering the main vertical tank, which contains ion-exchange resins. These resins absorb the water hardness, delivering soft water throughout the home's plumbing. Over time, as the resin capacity fills up, the system automatically utilizes the shorter, adjacent brine tank to flush and regenerate the resin with a concentrated salt solution, keeping the system ready for continuous operation.
