A twin-tank water softener operates using an ion exchange process to continuously remove hardness minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, from the water supply. While one tank is actively filtering and softening the incoming water, the second tank remains on standby. When the meter detects that the active tank's resin bed has reached its capacity and requires regeneration, the system automatically switches the water flow to the standby tank, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of soft water. The exhausted tank then undergoes a self-cleaning cycle using a brine solution to flush out the trapped minerals, preparing it to take over seamlessly when the other tank needs maintenance.
