The XTS Series Water Softening System consists of a brine (salt) tank and a resin (media) tank. The system works by directing incoming water through an ion exchange softening resin, which swaps hardness ions for softer ones. The softened water is then sent to the service lines for use. Periodically, the system undergoes a regeneration cycle, which is factory-set to occur at 2:00 A.M. During this process, the control valve draws a brine solution from the salt tank to flush both accumulated hardness and excess salt down the drain. Afterward, the valve refills the salt tank with fresh water to prepare for the next regeneration cycle. The frequency of this cycle depends on the size of the system, water quality, and the amount of water used.
